Program: SONOMAWORKS (CALWORKS)

Description
Provides limited cash payments to eligible families with children. Families participate in employment and training programs to promote self-sufficiency. Includes the following services:
- Childcare, transportation, and counseling to families in work activities
- Referrals to Legal Aid of Sonoma County for assistance at little to no cost
- Connection to CalLearn services for pregnant and parenting teens
- Helps finding housing for eligible CalWORKs families experiencing homelessness. Clients may receive up to 2 weeks of hotel stays per year as needed.
CalWORKS is California's version of the Federal Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). CalWORKS recipients receive Medi-Cal coverage and may also qualify for CalFRESH (Food Stamps).
Eligibility
Families with children under age 18 or under age 19 if the child is in high school or vocational school. One or both of the child's parents must be unemployed, disabled, continuously absent or deceased. Applicants must meet income and resource limits.
Applicants may also qualify if
- pregnant in the second trimester
- a mother under age 18
- a relative caring for a child
